From “What’s a Career Coach?” to Becoming One: How I Changed Paths and Built a Career I Love

I didn’t grow up dreaming of being a career coach. In fact, not that long ago, I didn’t even know what a career coach was.

Like many people, I followed a traditional path—get a job, climb the ladder, collect the paycheck, repeat. I spent over a decade in operations management at a Fortune 500 company, leading teams, hitting goals, and managing all the moving parts of a large organization. It was steady work. It was respectable work. But somewhere along the way, I started to feel like I was meant for something different. Something more connected to people, purpose, and helping others build lives they’re proud of.

Still, I didn’t know what that “something” was—until I stumbled across the concept of career coaching.

At first, I thought: Career coach? Is that even a real job?

Turns out, it absolutely is. And not only is it real—it’s exactly where I was meant to be all along.

I made the leap. I took my experience in leadership, talent development, and business strategy and built a coaching practice from the ground up. I earned certifications, studied best practices, and started helping people rewrite their career stories—just like I had to do for myself.

Today, I’m proud to say I’ve helped hundreds of job seekers land roles that align with their values, talents, and goals. I’ve supported executives during career pivots, guided new grads through their first job searches, and empowered career changers to embrace the unknown and go for it.

So, why am I sharing this?

Because if you’re feeling stuck, uncertain, or unfulfilled in your current path—know this: It’s not too late to pivot. You can discover a new calling. You can turn a curiosity into a career. You can reinvent yourself and thrive in a space you didn’t even know existed a few years ago.

If I didn’t know what a career coach was and now I am one—you can change careers too. And I’m here to tell you: it’s worth it.
